Soultana Main House
The entrance to "Soultana House" is through a lovely garden
terrace. The garden and windows face south to Mt. Profit Elias
and the Aegean Sea with a panoramic view spreading from East
to West. The main house salon has three large open areas separated
by two-floor-to-ceiling- hand-hewn stone arches. Near the
entrance is a formal sitting area and beyond is the dining
area all decorated with lovely island antique furniture, antique
engravings of Patmos, and fascinating collectibles. The main
house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms with shower. Behind
Soultana House is the "Kalikatsou" GuestHouse.
View of Mt. Profit Elias at Sunset
A rush of brilliant pink bougainvillea greets you, as you
step into the 100 square meter "avli" and garden terrace of
the "Soultana House". In the right season, you can pick a
juicy lemon from the lemon tree, or just sit at the round
table and sip a tasty "ouzo" complimented by the lovely aroma
of the "stefanoto" flowers, or gaze on the brilliant red hibiscus.
Contemplate the natural rock garden, where local cactus bloom
without a drop of summer rain.
Here, we say, the garden IS the house. A wide stone bench
has comfortable lounging pillows -- you can choose to lounge
under the shade of the green arbor, or pick a spot in the
sun. From this terrace, you have expansive views to the South,
East and West. In August, enjoy a cool drink while watching
the golden sun set over the Aegean sea.
Just a few moments of the earliest morning sun reach under the
green shaded arbor of this terrace, covered with cool, milky
white patio stones from the nearby island of Lipsos. The terrace
is very well protected from the summer "meltemi" winds. Our
bet is you'll rarely spend much time indoors, but when you
do, enter the double doors to the living room. (Soultana House
underwent a major rebuilding (from the ground up) which was
completed in July 2004.
The windows face south to Mt. Profit Elias and the Aegean
Sea. The salon is separated by two hand hewn stone arches.
The room is decorated with antique gravures, paintings, and
other collectibles. The house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms
plus a full kitchen.
Dining room detail.
One of the bedrooms in the Main House has two single beds.
They sit on a wide platform, so they can be pushed together
to make a huge double bed. This room is noted for its natural
stone wall, and a view to the terrace garden.
The other bedroom has a queensize double bed with a steel
bedhead in the main house of Soultana.

Kalikatsou Suite
This guest house is located in Chora, Patmos, facing south
under the famous Monastery of St. John. It is a large studio
with all the necessary facilities for a couple.
The bed in Kalikatsou guest house is Suva style - raised
from the floor with storage space underneath. In days of old,
it is said that this space was sometimes used to "hide" from
Pirates who attacked the islands.
To the right of the bed is a sitting area. It has a loveseat
sofa and a dining table with wing flaps. The table sits in
front of the western window which provides a spectacular view
over the nun's monastery, Evangelismos and the Ikarian Sea.
In late August and throughout the fall, the sun sets right
into the sea, as viewed from this window. Original engravings
of Patmos hang on the walls. These engravings are part of
a large collection of Patmian engravings located in the Frances
and Soultana houses.
The view from the terrace is spectacular and unobstructed
with enough sitting area to lounge or read or have a small
dinner party.
The kitchenette is fully equipped with an under-counter frigde,
a small freezer, a ceramic cooktop, and plenty of storage
space.
The closet has space for hanging as well as convenient storage
shelves. The entrace to the bathroom is next to the closet.
The bathroom has a shower, a white marble sinktop, and elegant
antique type bronze fittings.
Kalikatsou is sometimes available as an independent
unit.
